Common Questions & Guidance
Everything you need to know to begin your journey.
Can I email you with questions about my practice?
I am deeply grateful for your interest and your trust. However, at age 76, I must be very careful with how I spend my limited energy.
I am unable to reply to emails or comments personally.
Please do not take my silence as indifference. I have created this website to “speak” for me, offering all the tools and guidance I have to give. I invite you to trust your own inner wisdom as you navigate these practices.
What is the difference between the “Free Overview” and the “Full MBSR Training”?
1. The Free Overview (On this website):
This is a “Lite” version. It consists of 9 text-based modules that you can read in about 45 minutes each. It covers the core concepts and offers the basic practices. It is perfect for beginners or those wanting a refresher.
2. The Full MBSR Training (External Link):
This is the complete, comprehensive 8-week program exactly as I taught it for decades. It includes full-length video teachings, audio tracks, and the complete curriculum required if you plan to eventually become a teacher yourself. View the Full Training here.
When do the courses start?
Both the Free Overview and the Full Training are 100% self-paced. You can start this very moment. There are no scheduled class times, so you can fit the practice into your life whenever it works best for you.
How do I do the “Home Retreat”?
In Module 6R of the Free Overview (and Week 6 of the Full Course), we include a guide for a “Home Retreat.” This is a 6-hour period of silence you practice in your own home. We provide the schedule and the audio files to guide you through it gently.
Is this “real” MBSR?
Yes. There are many diluted versions of mindfulness out there. My training comes directly from the source. I was trained at the University of Massachusetts Medical School (Class of 2007), the institution where Jon Kabat-Zinn founded MBSR. I teach the lineage faithfully.
Can I teach MBSR after taking your course?
No. Taking an 8-week course is only the first step (the prerequisite) to becoming a teacher. It does not certify you to teach others.
However, completing my Full MBSR Training does fulfill the prerequisite requirement for entering advanced teacher training institutes (such as Brown University or UMass).
