Home Study – Home training following an eight-week curriculum taught at the Center for Mindfulness in Medicine— by two senior MBSR teachers, Saki Santorelli and Florence Meleo-Meyer.

Stress and pain are nearly unavoidable in our daily lives; they are part of the human condition. This stress can often leave us feeling irritable, tense, overwhelmed, and burned-out. The key to maintaining balance is responding to stress not with frustration and self-criticism.  But with mindful, nonjudgmental awareness of our bodies and minds it is easier than it seems.

Comments– Hopefully, once you start the Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction mindfulness training program and you will keep it up. Remember, we tell our patients, “You don’t have to like it, you just have to do it.” By the time you have been practicing these mindfulness exercises for eight weeks. You will have enough momentum and direct personal experience with the practice to keep going with it for years if you choose to.

The place to start is with your breathing. 

If you haven’t done the three-minute experiment on paying attention to your breathing and watching what your mind does. Then you might want to do that now,  to make sure you know what we mean. By keeping the mind on the breath and bringing it back when it wanders.

We recommend that, at the very least, you do this every day for five or ten minutes. Either sitting or lying down, at a time that is convenient for you. Next, start getting comfortable with feeling your belly expand and deflate (rise and fall) as you breathe. The most important thing to remember is to practice every day.

Even if you can make only five minutes to practice during your day, five minutes of mindfulness can be very restorative and healing.

Welcome to MBSR Training

Welcome and thank you for your interest in the MBSR training program. We are pleased to be able to assist you to develop what we consider to be an especially important life skill, mindfulness. We understand that many of you may also be learning these skills so that you can help others. Mindfulness exercises give you as practitioners a common platform from which to grow your own mindfulness practice community.

So, a little bit about us (Ross and Heidi) … We are a father and daughter team who have dedicated our lives to the practice of Mindfulness Meditation and Yoga, and we want to give back to others. We have both found different mindfulness practices and techniques that are beneficial in our lives.Buy Mindfulness Training

About Heidi:

I started using these mindfulness tools when I was finishing my MBA in my early twenties. I would attend different meditation and yoga retreats and would notice a significant difference in how I could handle the high level of pressure and stress that is often present in academic and corporate environments. I was able to transform my relationship with ‘stress’ and became more peaceful, present with myself and others, and amazingly performed better.

I was so inspired by the results that I experienced, that I eventually went on to complete my Yoga certification and trained in mindfulness. I have learned through regular practice the ability to control my mind and respond in a mindful way, instead of being reactionary and feeling overwhelmed.

About Ross:

At the age of 40, the stresses in my life were more than my life skills. I had a deep inner knowing that there was another way. So, I began practicing gentle body movements and yoga to help release the stress held inside my body. Next, I started to practice Mindfulness Meditation to strengthen and quiet my mind.

32-years later, I look back with a deep appreciation for these ancient mindfulness exercises. They have changed my relationship with stress and fear.
